- Prepare your container or pot.
No wonder if you are confused to choose the suitable container for your plant. It’s because of many options of container or pots available out there. From cheap to expensive and from cheerful to decorative.
The essential things about the container are:
– The material
Considering the container will be placed in the outdoor during all the time, the Material should be resistant to the heat, cold or the sun.
– The size of a container.
The large of the container you have chosen must be enough for your plant. Having a larger one is better than too small.
– The container must have an adequate hole at the bottom for drainage.
Additionally, you may answer the following question before you decide to buy. Is it your trial project? Does look is a matter for you? or you just want to focus on flower or tree you want to plant on it. If the answer is yes, you might buy a standard, cheap but cheerful container.
- Use a good quality soil mix only in your container. When you fill the containers with media, don’t fulfill the pot with soil to the top. Leave about a one-inch space between the top of the soil and the edge of the container. So it is easier for your when you make watering to the container as it provides a place to “put water” and the water will not run over the edge.
- Selecting and maintaining plants
Consider color, height, texture and ornamental value when you selecting plants. You can put different flower or plant in each pot and then group the pots together in different heights. Be creative! Pick flowers, plants or fruits, vegetables! They all can grow well in pots or containers
Plants in the container need to be watered regularly. Do not make the soil completely dries out. Take a good look when it’s summer because in extreme heat your plant will need more water.
Although only in a Container, you still can create both beauty and functionality to your outdoor living space.
